Our client, a global manufacturing and distribution company based in Exeter is seeking a Prototype Engineer to join their innovative Research and Development Team. As a Prototype Engineer, you will take responsibility for producing prototypes, machined components, production jigs and assembly fixtures.
Responsibilities of the Prototype Engineer:
- Manufacture prototypes from both sheet metal and thicker gauge materials, ensuring high accuracy and adherence to design specifications
- Utilise turning centres, milling machines, and other machinery like surface grinders to produce precision components. Welding experience, especially with varying material thicknesses, is highly desirable
- Interpret and work with component and assembly technical drawings to produce prototypes within the required tolerances. Collaborate with engineering teams to design and produce jigs and fixtures that enhance the manufacturing process
- Deliver prototypes to laboratories within tight timescales, ensuring all equipment used is properly calibrated and maintained
Requirements of the Prototype Engineer
- Proven experience in precision engineering within a similar environment
- Strong understanding of sheet metal assembly design principles
- Excellent communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Ability to work independently, with a proactive and quality-focused approach
